I met the two models last summer downtown in my city Cologne and they immediately caught my attention. I started the Friends Series last year and if there are no friends approaching me and volunteering to be painted, I go and find some myself. That has turned out to be a lot of fun and extremley rewarding. I pick random strangers and ask them whether they are friends. When they say yes, the ice is broken already because it's nice for them to talk about their friendship. If I am lucky they are in no hurry and I can start an on-the-spot photo session with them. Since they didn't know before that they were going to be models on that day, they are usually pretty authentic, which is what I really like most.

From the Friendship Series

When the artist painted the first “Friends“ (Afghanistan), she noticed the subtle interaction between the two girls in front of the camera and felt fascinated by it. That fascniation grew when she painted the following two double portraits of friends and decided to turn them all into the beginning of a new series. Seona believes from the bottom of her heart that personal encounters and nurturing friendships are the key to a more peaceful world. Making friends is not only a lot easier than making enemies it's also so much more rewarding. This may seem more than obvious but apparently is isn't when looking at what is happening in the world, in Ukraine, in Syria, and in many other places. This series is therefore dedicated to the many forms of friendships everywhere.

Ich habe diese beiden Frauen letzten Sommer in meiner Heimatstadt Köln getroffen. Letztes Jahr habe ich mit der Friends-Serie begonnen, und wenn keine Freund*innen auf mich zukommen und sich freiwillig porträtieren lassen wollen, suche ich mir selbst welche. Das hat mir bereits sehr viel Freude bereitet und sich extrem gelohnt. Ich suche mir zufällige Fremde aus und frage sie, ob sie Freund*innen sind. Wenn sie ja sagen, ist das Eis schon gebrochen, denn es ist schön, wenn sie über ihre Freundschaft sprechen. Wenn ich Glück habe, haben sie es nicht eilig und ich kann direkt eine Fotosession vor Ort mit ihnen machen. Da sie vorher nicht wussten, dass sie an diesem Tag Modell stehen würden, sind sie in der Regel ziemlich authentisch, was ich besonders gerne mag.

Aus der Werkreihe: Friends

Als die Künstlerin das erste "Friends"-Bild malte (Afghanistan), bemerkte sie die subtile Interaktion zwischen den beiden Mädchen vor der Kamera und war davon sofort fasziniert. Diese Faszination wuchs, als sie die beiden folgenden Doppelporträts von Freund*innen malte und beschloss, dass diese drei Bilder der Beginn einer neuen Serie waren. Seona glaubt aus tiefstem Herzen, dass persönliche Begegnungen und die Pflege von Freundschaften der Schlüssel zu einer friedlicheren Welt sind. Freundschaften zu schließen ist nicht nur viel einfacher als sich Feinde zu machen, sondern auch sehr viel lohnender. Das mag mehr als offensichtlich erscheinen, ist es aber anscheinend nicht, wenn man sich ansieht, was in der Welt passiert, in der Ukraine, in Syrien und an vielen anderen Orten. Diese Serie ist daher den vielen Formen von Freundschaften überall gewidmet.
